Aces bounce back with a win against the Sparks

The Aces rebounded with an 87-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday. With the win, the Aces improve to 17-9, while the Sparks drop to 6-21.

Aces Sparks 

The Aces would get off to an early 5-1 lead in the first quarter but both teams would trade buckets the rest of the quarter. Neither team led by more than 4 points with the Aces tying the game on a shot by Jackie Young late in the first quarter.

The Aces took the lead two minutes into the quarter on Chelsea Gray’s difficult stepback jumper.

The Sparks tied the game midway through the quarter before the Aces 7-0 run extended their lead to 7, 38-31. They would lead for the rest of the quarter and go into halftime up 44-37 after Tiffany Hayes made a basket to close the quarter.

The Aces began the third quarter on a 7-2 run, taking their largest lead of the game, 51-39. Los Angeles responded with a 12-3 run, capitalizing on Aces turnovers. They would get as close as 3 to 54-51 with 3 minutes left.

Late in the quarter it would be the Sydney Colson show as she would bring a much needed spark off the bench. Colson was a plus-7 in just 5 minutes of action in the quarter, scoring 4 points on 2-2 shooting and grabbing one steal.

The Aces would lead by double digits for the majority of the fourth quarter outscoring the Sparks 23-18. A’ja Wilson was dominant down the stretch, scoring 10 of her 34 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Aces to an 87-71 victory.

Four Aces scored in double digits, led by A’ja Wilson, who dominated the whole game and finished with 34 points. A’ja would also have a significant influence on defense, recording 5 thefts, 2 blocks, and 13 rebounds.

Kelsey Plum, who struggled shooting the other day, rebounded with 18 points, making four of her seven three-point attempts.

Tiffany Hayes continued to offer a spark off the bench, finishing with 11 points on 3-6 shooting, while Jackie Young had 10.

The Sparks had three players score in double digits, led by rookie Rickea Jackson’s 15 points and 5 rebounds. Dearica Hamby had a double double in her return to Vegas, scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Las Vegas Aces will have a few days off before facing the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday. The game will tip off 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
