Aces countdown: Becky Hammon ranks No. 4 in franchise history

Today is Monday, May 5, and four days remain until the Las Vegas Aces open the 2026 season. At Dice City Sports, we are counting down to opening tip as the defending champs chase a fourth championship in five years while we rank the top 14 figures in franchise history.

Hammon checks in at No. 4 because her franchise impact spans two eras. She was first a star guard for San Antonio, then became the coach who turned Las Vegas into a dynasty.

As a player, Hammon spent eight seasons with the San Antonio Silver Stars from 2007-14. She averaged 15.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 223 games while shooting 43.2% from the field, 38.8% from 3-point range and 92.1% from the free-throw line.

Her peak came right away. Hammon averaged 18.8 points and 5.0 assists in 2007, made the All-WNBA first team and finished second in MVP voting. She followed with All-WNBA second-team honors in 2008, then another All-WNBA first-team season in 2009 after averaging 19.5 points and 5.0 assists.

Hammon also gave the franchise long-term identity. She made four All-Star teams with San Antonio and remained a top playmaker through 2012, when she averaged 14.7 points and 5.3 assists.

Then came her coaching run. Hammon was hired by the Las Vegas Aces on Dec. 31, 2021. Since then, she has gone 117-43 in the regular season and 28-9 in the playoffs.

The results changed the franchise forever. Hammon led the Aces to WNBA titles in 2022, 2023 and 2025. She also won 2022 WNBA Coach of the Year and has earned four Coach of the Month honors.
