Aces top Dallas before All-Star Break

The Las Vegas Aces (11-11) took on the Dallas Wings (6-17) at the College Park Center on Wednesday night.

In the previous game between the two teams, the Aces won that matchup, 88-84.

In the first half, A’ja Wilson led the Aces scoring 8 points. Chelsea Gray blocked the rookie Paige Buecker’s pullup jumper. Dana Evans continued her offensive spark with a 13-foot jumper to give the Aces a two-point lead at the top of the second quarter.

Everyone on the floor was involved on offense. Jewell Loyd got in on the act early with a pass from A’ja Wilson for an 18-foot jumper.

Jackie Young came in with the hot hand and the assists to her teammates. By the end of the half, Young had dished out 5 assists. At the close of the half, the Aces were up 47-41.

A’ja Wilson and the Aces continued to pound the paint in the second half. With 3:46 left in the third quarter the Aces led over the Wings, 61-48. The Aces closed out the third quarter up by twenty points.

In the fourth quarter, the Aces added to their lead. At the 8:21 mark, the Aces were up 72-58. Jackie Young injured her right hip during this time and did not return to finish game.

“I don’t have an evaluation yet for her. They’re still looking at it,” Aces coach Becky Hammon said in regards to Young’s hip injury.

A’ja Wilson finished with another double-double, 37 points and 10 rebounds. Chelsea Gray led the Aces, dishing out 7 assists. The Aces went 47.9% from the floor.

The Aces head into the All-Star break with their second straight win, topping the Wings, 90-86.

“Get wins by any means necessary. I don’t care what they look like,” A’ja Wilson said in the post-game presser.

The Aces take on the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday, July 22 after the All-Star break.
