The Las Vegas Aces are on the East Coast, going up against the New York Liberty. However, they will be down a player heading into the second half due to injury. A’ja Wilson left the game due to a wrist injury and remained in the locker room when the rest of the team came back out.

ESPN’s Holly Rowe provided the report during Tuesday night’s broadcast, giving more information on the injury. A tough break for Las Vegas as they look to hold onto a slight lead.

“Well guys, significant breaking news,” Rowe said just before the second half began. “A’ja Wilson will not return to this game with a right wrist injury. Told that by their PR staff. She is still back in the locker room where she went earlier.”

Wilson wound up playing in just 14 minutes and not putting up her best performance from a stat perspective. Her two assists equaled the amount of points scored, while four rebounds doubled up both. Usually, Wilson is one of the best in the WNBA and will be a key loss for the Aces moving forward.

Entering Tuesday, Wilson averaged 21.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. She is shooting just under 46% from the field while making 85.2% of her free throw attempts. The individual awards have stacked up across the years too, including three MVPs and 2023 Finals MVP.

Once the Liberty game is over, questions will certainly be asked about Wilson’s long-term health. The Aces are currently a .500 team and have a chance of falling below the line if they cannot hang on against New York. A team with a ton of expectations, Las Vegas needs to get back to winning ways quickly.

Thursday will be the team’s next game, continuing to play on the other coast. The Washington Mystics will play host with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. From there, they will return to Las Vegas for a one-game home stand, playing on a Saturday afternoon.

Everyone involved with the franchise will be hoping Wilson is okay. As Rowe reports a wrist injury — those can be difficult to come back from. Especially after taking the kind of fall Wilson did, trying to brace herself.

More information will certainly come from head coach Becky Hammon when speaking to the media. Until then, an important two quarters against the Liberty are on deck for the Aces.
