When the Indiana Fever faced elimination in Game 2 against the Atlanta Dream, Caitlin Clark showed up in an all-black outfit paired with black Nike Air Forces. Maybe the sneakers had some “magic”? Because the Fever went on to win the game and eventually the series. Heading into Game 2 against the Aces this time, Clark was back in all black alongside some of the coaching staff, but tonight, the “jinx” didn’t seem to work.
The Aces evened the series as many expected them to, thanks to a 25-point, 9-rebound performance from the newly crowned MVP who had faced heavy criticism for not meeting expectations after shooting 6-22 from the field earlier. Ahead of the game, A’ja was asked about her struggles with Aliyah in the previous matchup, and she kept it very simple.
“It was no different than any other time I play Aliyah, or any other big in this league. It’s always very physical -and it’s playoffs, so they let you get away with a lot of different things and that doesn’t really change much of the game and our system so we really just going to continue to buckle in,” she had said. And it turns out that sticking to the basics eventually helped the Aces overcome their issues from Game 1.
A’ja on AB’s defense last game:
“It was no different than any other time I play Aliyah, or any other big in this league. It’s always very physical -and it’s playoffs, so they let you get away with a lot of different things…”
So much delusion in one quote
