Aliyah Boston might have been the best person to address the drama that happened between Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever’s No.10 overall draft pick, Raven Johnson, back in their collegiate careers.
During the 2023 Final Four matchup between South Carolina and Iowa, CC waived off Johnson, who was wide open for a three-point shot in the final moments of the match. Clark didn’t even try to guard her on the perimeter, but Johnson still missed. The moment went viral as Johnson was later trolled all over social media for it.
But Boston shared a unique perspective on this topic during an April 15 episode of her podcast Post Moves with Candace Parker. “Like, no beef, obviously. It’s so funny, the fans always have more beef than the players actually do. So it’s always entertaining, you read all this stuff, and fans are hating on one person, hating on another. And then you’re playing with that said person.” She said.

Boston’s comments came after Parker asked whether Clark and Johnson’s first interaction as teammates was about to be a bit “awkward,” given that the Fever picked Johnson as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
Boston has also played with Johnson at South Carolina when the team lost to CC’s Iowa at the NCAA tournament. However, she didn’t see anything untoward happening between the two following Johnson’s entry into the Fever side.
“And so I think it’s going to be fine. Everyone has their thoughts, but when you come in, and you’re in the gym, and you’re ready to hoop, that’s literally all it is… It literally doesn’t matter,” Boston concluded.
Both CC and Johnson are utmost professionals. Both of them would need to put any history aside should they want the team to succeed.
While the Fever No. 7 has shrugged off the somewhat controversial history between Clark and Johnson, at least we know she will be the mediator if, at all, the time comes.
However, it is worth noting that Johnson recently revealed how her incident with Clark nearly made her quit playing.
When Caitlin Clark waved Johnson off the three-point range to say as if she was not a threat from outside the arc, it admittedly broke Johnson’s confidence.
When speaking about this on a March 28 episode of the “I AM NEXT” podcast, Johnson said, “That’s one reason I hate the internet now, because of that situation. Like, I got bashed, I got bullied, I got called all these things that I wasn’t… I don’t know. It was just things like that, and I just think I wanted to quit basketball at that time.”
“And I just wanted to go into this little bubble of isolation, and just be by myself. And I think, you know, I leaned on God, I had some wonderful teammates, wonderful people in my life.” Johnson added.
While Johnson healed from this mental battle on her own and came out a better player, she did not forget to throw in some shade regarding the fact that the Gamecocks managed to beat Clark’s Iowa in the 2024 national championship.
Nevertheless, it will be a treat to watch Clark and Johnson battle it out in training camps as both are fiery competitors with unmatched professionalism.
But how do you think their combination will fare on the court during the Fever’s games this season?
