Aliyah Boston Dominates, Despite Caitlin Clark’s Shooting Struggles

The Indiana Fever moved to 7-7 after last night’s victory over the Seattle Storm, with Aliyah Boston leading the charge.

The win concluded a three-game West Coast trip where they went 1-2, dropping their first two contests against the Golden State Valkyries and the Las Vegas Aces. Despite Caitlin Clark missing five games, Indiana is currently in the mix for one of the final playoff spots.

The former Iowa Hawkeye has been tremendous as a professional, however, her efficiency has been down recently. Throughout the Fever’s last three games, Clark has made just one three-pointer out of 23 attempts. She’s shooting 39% from the field in general this season and only 29.5% from beyond the arc.

Some might point the finger towards the fact that Clark is still playing herself back into form, and at times it seems like she's not able to lift much on jump shots.

While Clark has been struggling, it’s safe to say the Fever have another dominant force on the roster, and that’s Aliyah Boston.

The 2023 number-one overall pick is averaging a career-high 15.9 PPG, making 61.7% of her shots. During Boston’s last three games, one could argue she’s emerging into one of the WNBA’s best centers.

In last night’s win over Seattle, Boston delivered a career-best, finishing with 31 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while shooting an impressive 13/18.

In Las Vegas, she dropped 26 points and 10 rebounds, as well as another double-double against Golden State in the previous game with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She’s a powerhouse in the post, leveraging her 6’5” frame and soft touch to score efficiently in the paint.

On the defensive end, Boston’s a phenomenal rim-protector, averaging 1.4 blocks per contest. Her development as a playmaker is astonishing, with the former WNBA Rookie of the Year’s assists per game rising each season.

Boston has elevated Indiana’s offense because of her ball handling and playmaking, particularly in high-post situations and dribble hand-offs, and can even bring the ball up the court if needed, which takes some of the load off of Clark’s shoulders.

As long as Clark and Boston remain teammates, the Fever will have an elite duo that’s capable of taking them extremely far, especially if they continue to improve.
