Aliyah Boston Highlights Concerning Indiana Fever Trend

The Indiana Fever averted disaster on Friday night.

After a strong start that saw Indiana take a 23-point lead in the opening quarter against the Dallas Wings, Paige Bueckers and Co. persistently chipped away at the Fever's advantage.

Thanks to their unrelenting play, the Wings finally took the lead at around the midway point of the fourth quarter after rookie JJ Quinerly's three-point play. At that point, it seemed like the Fever were on the brink of another late-game collapse, which was exactly what happened on Thursday when they gave up an eight-point fourth-quarter lead to the Los Angeles Sparks to lose, 85-75.

Indiana was able to hold on against Bueckers and the Wings, though. They held off Dallas' comeback to escape with a hard-fought 94-86 win, thereby avoiding another disastrous meltdown in the fourth quarter.

Aliyah Boston, who finished the game with 21 points and six rebounds, got brutally honest after the win as she highlighted a concerning trend for Indiana.

“Once again, leads did slip away in this game, and last game,” Boston said, via Nathan Baird of IndyStar

“But for us it’s about making sure we turn that page, we get back the lead, we keep it, we get big defensive stops. It’s a game of runs and you just have to make sure you have the best one at the end.”

As Boston said, the big takeaway from Friday night is that the Fever were able to fight through adversity. This has not been the case for them many times this season, and their 8-8 record is a testament to this fact.

It's also important to note that Indiana was able to show their tenacity against the Wings even without Caitlin Clark, who was out for a second straight game due to a groin injury.

The Fever will face adversity again as they progress deeper into the campaign. As Boston stated, it's essential that they've proven their ability to battle back and prevail--with or without Clark.
