Allisha Gray makes WNBA All-Star history, becomes first player to win both 3-point contest, skills challenge
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

After already picking up the hardware from winning the 2024 KIA WNBA Skills Challenge trophy, Atlanta Dream star Allisha Gray swept the WNBA All-Star skills competition as she was also crowned the WNBA STARRY 3-Point Contest champion on Friday.

Inside Footprint Center, Gray scored 22 points in the final round to just edge out New York Liberty forward Jonquel Jones by just one point, 21. Jones needed one three to win, but failed to make a dagger before the buzzer.

Gray opened up the first round with 23 as she got into an early rhythm before Jones clicked from the get-go, going off for a night high of 25 points. Connecticut Sun’s Marina Mabrey (19), Minnesota Lynx’s Kayla McBride (21) and Washington Mystics’ Stefanie Dolson (20) were eliminated off of those two leading runs.

Quickly shooting and rushing to put the ball up, Colson was red-hot to start as she was swishing almost every ball to begin before she had 10 seconds left and no balls remaining.

With this win, Gray became the first player in WNBA skills competition history to win both the skills challenge and the 3-point contest on the same night. By being the winner of both, she will pocket $110,000 in bonuses courtesy of Aflac, nearly matching her yearly salary of $185,000.

Earning that huge chunk of change, Gray will look to make it three victories during WNBA All-Star 2024 in Phoenix when she will suit up for Team WNBA when they take on the USA Basketball Women’s National Team on Saturday in the All-Star Game.

The All-Star Game begins at 5:30 p.m. PT.
