Alyssa Thomas makes concerning revelation about Caitlin Clark incident

It's been a week since Alyssa Thomas and Caitlin Clark got tangled up in a bit of a heated situation

With just under seven minutes to play in the second quarter, Clark scrambled for a loose ball, with Thomas driving a fist into her neck before getting back up.

The referees didn't call a foul at the moment, but she was retroactively given a flagrant 2 foul upon further review. Not only did that result in a suspension, but it also sparked serious backlash and criticism from both sides of the aisle.

That's why the Phoenix Mercury star broke the silence to call out WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert for the way she's dealt with this situation.

“Honestly, I didn’t even know I was being suspended until 10 minutes before it was put out on social media,” Thomas said, per ESPN. “We still have yet to hear anything from Cathy [Engelbert]. It’s no surprise. You can see what’s being said on social media, and yeah, it’s unfortunate. As usual, she remains silent when our lives are being threatened.”

Thomas also revealed that she's received multiple death threats in the aftermath of the incident. Moreover, it's not the first time something has escalated to this level, and she believes the league isn't doing much to protect players.

“It’s not even about the suspension,” she continued. “I think there are a lot of other plays you could say the same about. We’re so concerned about safety on the court, but time and time again we’re having people threatening our lives, leaking addresses out there. At some point, the league needs to take a stand. Players are going through this repeatedly, and I’m sick and tired of it.”

Thomas, who will return to the court Thursday night against the Seattle Storm, also called out Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark fans for racially abusing her on social media.

“People are sending racial slurs and all types of stuff,” Thomas said. “There's a difference between trolling and there's a difference between hatred. The hatred that we're experiencing over a play that, honestly, was a complete accident, no one even knew it happened. It's just unfortunate. The league has to do better in this instance.”

The Fever and Mercury clearly don't like one another. In the game before the altercation, six technical fouls were called and one player was ejected.

As for Clark, she's dealing with a back injury and missed her team's last game.
