Amidst the controversy Angel Reese has courted, opinions are divided on whether the 2nd year star should have criticized her teammates as well as the Chicago Sky.
The star forward apologized to her teammates after they called a players-only meeting. She reiterated her apology and talked about how her frustrations got to her.
The Chicago Sky, however, chose to punish her and suspended her for the first half of their September 7th game against the Las Vegas Aces. She sat out the 2nd half and the September 9th game, stating that her back injury had flared up.
However, what caught everyone’s eye was the disconnect between Reese and her teammates. She did not seem to be communicating with them and was not interested in celebrating the birthday of her former LSU teammate, Hailey Van Lith.
Some believe the situation has gone far enough that Angel Reese might not play for the Sky anymore. Former All-Star Angel McCoughtry has a solution to win back her teammates, and possibly her career with the team.
You’re not the only one having a bad season. Your teammates are having a bad season, too. But here’s the difference. They don’t have million-dollar endorsement deals… You know what I would do Angel? I would go to one of my endorsements saying, ‘Give me an extra $100K so I can give all my teammates $10K, just to show them I care.
Angel McCoughtry said on the Good Fellow Show
The 5-time All-Star added that Reese’s teammates do not have the luxuries that she has, and thus would feel belittled by this entire episode. At the same time, she wanted to remind her fellow Maryland native that everyone struggles early.
Angel McCoughtry understands the Chicago Sky star is frustrated after posting losing seasons twice. She started talking about this discourse by stating how it was for every star who came into the WNBA.
Angel, this is coming from big sis. Me, Diana (Taurasi), Sue (Bird), Simone (Augustus), Tamika (Catchings),.. I can go down the line. We’ve all had losing seasons before. You have to be patient.

While saying this, the 2-time scoring champion recalled how she saw A’ja Wilson crying after losing the chance to make the playoffs. At that time, McCoughtry advised her to be patient.

Now, Wilson is a 2-time champion and in the running for her 4th MVP award. The retired star believes Angel Reese also needs to be patient, as it takes time for rebuilding teams to start winning.
The last thing a rebuilding team needs is a young player who displays her frustrations by throwing her teammates under the bus. To build a team, one has to grow together.
Candace Parker has been on quite a few teams herself and knows what goes into building a championship-winning roster. She dipped into her experience to give Angel Reese some advice.
In public, you have to protect your team & organization no matter how you feel. The best advice that I ever received was to keep things in-house. You can yell, scream, cuss, do all those in between these walls. But you can’t bring it out. Once that happens, it is hard to gain that trust back.
Candace Parker said on the Post Moves Show
The 3-time champion believes it is imperative to keep any frustrations within the four walls of their team. Now that everything has happened, it will take a monumental effort to regain the trust of Reese’s teammates.

Parker hopes the Sky star and her team can use the offseason to fix this issue. Otherwise, it will be difficult to move on to the next season with those feelings still lingering.
