Angel Reese Had Five Words After Chicago Sky’s Loss to Mercury

The Chicago Sky entered Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury hoping to rebound—but instead suffered a lopsided loss, marking their ninth defeat of the season. The end result worsened their outlook in the standings as the playoff window rapidly narrows, despite another impressive scoring outing from second-year center Kamilla Cardoso.

Angel Reese, riding the momentum from a strong performance against the Washington Mystics, struggled on Saturday, finishing the night with just nine points, two rebounds, and two assists in 21 minutes. She managed only a single make from the field: a rare shot from beyond the three-point line in the third quarter.

Reese's lone field goal on Saturday was actually her only attempt of the game. The single field goal attempt marked a season-low for Reese, growing the frustration among fans with how head coach Tyler Marsh is using her in the offense.

Following the blowout, Reese shared a photo on her Instagram story with Mercury guard Kahleah Copper. While Copper is just 30 years old, Reese poked fun at the 10-year veteran.

“grandmaaaaa. missed my old lady @_klc215," Reese wrote.

This was not Reese's only social media post after the game. She also posted one praying hands emoji on X.

Reese’s time in the WNBA has been a rollercoaster: a dominant rookie campaign in 2024 (leading the WNBA in offensive rebounds), followed by a sophomore year marked by inconsistency. She’s averaging 10.9 points and 10.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists but her shooting efficiency has dropped.

Reese is shooting just 38.4% and her turnovers have increased to 3.6 per game. With a 3-9 record, the Sky now turn their focus to Sunday’s road game against the Atlanta Dream, aiming to stop the skid before playoff aspirations slip away entirely.
