Angel Reese Leads WNBA in Unfortunate Stat

The Chicago Sky have started the 2025 WNBA season 0-2 under new head coach Tyler Marsh. In their first two games of the new campaign, they suffered consecutive blowout losses to the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty.

While Indiana and New York are two 2024 playoff teams, these have been non-competitive losses for a Chicago team looking to enter that tier. Entering the second professional season of 2024 All-Star Angel Reese, expectations were high for she and the team.

Coming off a season in which she averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, Reese has pulled down 14.5 rebounds per contest to start 2025, but is averaging just seven points.

Through two games, Reese has converted on just five of her 22 field goal attempts for a 22.7% clip. This is well-below the 39.1% she shot her rookie season. Reese's shooting struggles include an 0-for-8 shooting night against the Liberty on Thursday.

According to Extra Muse on X, Reese is in the top 10 of the WNBA in terms of shots attempts inside the restricted area. Unfortunately, she ranks dead last in this metric in terms of field goal percentage. She is also the only player on this list shooting below 50% (original stats via WNBA.com).

Reese got off to a hot start in her WNBA career last season, and she was able to ride out that momentum. She earned All-Star and All-Rookie honors for her performances, and she broke the league record in rebounds per game.

She also broke the WNBA rookie record for double-doubles in a season, and she set the single-season total rebounds record before an injury sidelined her and subsequently allowed A'ja Wilson to overtake that lead.

The Sky have an opportunity to get their first win of the season on Sunday when they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Sparks.
