After struggling early in the season, Angel Reese was on the verge of missing out on her 2nd All-Star appearance. Then, she turned her season around with some outstanding overall performances. Some of those have helped the Chicago Sky win.
Whereas in others, either their opponents were much better than them, or what has been the case off late, they have struggled to finish the job despite keeping the game close all the way.
In the past four games, the Sky has won 2, both against the Los Angeles Sparks, and lost the other two by 5 points each. These performances started to give the team confidence that they have made major improvements over the course of the season.
In the last of those 4 games, Reese and her Sky kept last season’s finalists, the Minnesota Lynx, honest throughout the game. At the end, the home team took the lead and kept it that way. However, after the game, Reese called out the officials over lopsided foul calls.
In their latest game against the Washington Mystics, the Sky again kept the game close. In the last few seconds, frustrations led Reese to smack the clipboard out of her coach’s hand. That led to a lot of backlash on social media, forcing a response.
Those (expletive) were pi--ing me off. Shoutout to Ann because she know it was the heat of the moment and she didn’t let me apologize because she knew! Not happening again tho.

The first set of four asterisks were an indirect reference to officials. Angel Reese did not appreciate how the officials did not call a foul for them and thus, took the frustration out on the coach’s clipboard.
This loss was the closest the Chicago Sky have had all season long. It is a massive turnaround for a team who lost their first game to the Indiana Fever by 35 points. They continued to face some embarrassing losses, but knew it was going to get better.
Angel Reese’s transition to the point forward role has been paying dividends. She was voted player of the week, after a stellar run of games. When one improves by this much, and still loses by single digits, it hurts.
The Sky know they will be better when Kamilla Cardoso returns. They seem to have fixed their chemistry woes, and are playing better around each other. Moreover, Cardoso’s absence has helped the coaches figure out new rotations.
They brought in 2nd round pick Maddy Westbeld for a few minutes, but understood, her length, rebounding, and scoring can help keep both Angel Reese as well as Cardoso fresh down the stretch.
All they need to do is to continue to believe that they can get over the hump. These close losses were on the road. With that belief, they should have an easier time handling their opponents in the next four home games.
After those four home games, Angel Reese will travel to Indianapolis to take part in her 2nd All-Star game. The two captains drafted their respective teammates earlier today, with the Sky star landing on Napheesa Collier‘s squad.
Nah team PHEE is STACKEDDD.

The LSU alum’s reaction says it all. Team Collier have a stacked roster of elite players spanning all position groups. They could make life difficult for Caitlin Clark’s team with their length, experience, and scoring ability.

Napheesa Collier mentioned that she was drafting Angel Reese to grab rebounds. The 2nd year star would happily do just that, considering she knows the scoring talent on her team will give Team Clark a tough time come July 19th.
