The Chicago Sky lost their third straight game on Sunday, giving them an 0-3 record in the early part of the 2025 WNBA season. After consecutive non-competitive losses against the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty, the Sky dropped another game by double-digits on Sunday against the Los Angeles Sparks.
While the final score was a bit lopsided at 91 to 78, 2024 WNBA All-Star Angel Reese had her best performance of the season. She contributed a season-high 13 points and four assists, in addition to 12 rebounds.
Her 5-for-11 shooting mark on Sunday also raised her season field goal percentage from 22.7% to 30.3%.
Reese had a productive offseason, earning the Defensive Player of the Year award in the Unrivaled League, as well as winning the league's first championship. She also sought advice from WNBA legends like Lisa Leslie on her podcast, "Unapologetically Angel."
After the Sky's loss to the Sparks on Sunday, a reporter asked Reese about Leslie's mentorship and what it means to the second-year player. Reese talked about the impact of a WNBA legend being in her corner.
"I think just being able to have somebody in my back pocket is always good," Reese said.
Leslie played 12 seasons in the WNBA, and she was a three-time MVP and eight-time All-Star. She also won two WNBA championships and was the Finals MVP on both occasions. Leslie was the league's Defensive Player of the Year twice as well in addition to her 12 All-WNBA selections.
Reese also has some accolades through one season, as she was a member of both the All-Rookie and All-Star teams in 2024. She also broke a league and rookie record by contributing 13.1 rebounds per contest last season.
The Sky will have another opportunity to win their first game on Tuesday night. They'll travel to Phoenix to take on the 3-1 Mercury.
