Atlanta Dream Coach Comments on Angel Reese WNBA News

Atlanta Dream head coach Karl Smesko praised Angel Reese after Monday’s win over the Minnesota Lynx.

Reese played a key part in the Dream’s impressive 89-81 win over the league-best Lynx. The three-time All-Star finished with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 33 minutes of action.

This performance marked Reese’s 29th double-double of the campaign. She has now set a new mark for most double-doubles in a single season.

After the game, Coach Smesko was asked to comment on Reese’s latest WNBA news.

“Angel did just an incredible amount of double-doubles in a season,” Smesko said during the postgame press conference. “Breaking the record, incredibly impressive.”

It wasn’t just Reese who stepped it up for Atlanta, though. Jordin Canada registered a 16-point, 10-assist double-double, while Allisha Gray led all scorers with 23 points, to go along with 11 rebounds and six triples.

Smesko also gave Canada and Gray their flowers.

“I think this is [Canada’s] seventh double-double as a point guard this year,” said the Dream coach. “She was great for us.

“Then I’m really impressed with [Gray] because we were talking about getting more help on the boards, and she was in there early. She was skying over some tall players and tipping it and going to grab the ball.

“She got us a bunch of extra possessions. She started off the game so well, being aggressive, attacking, knocking down shots. Then she was doing more than her part on the boards, so great effort by her.”

The Dream improved to 26-14 after beating the Lynx. They are now fourth in the standings with four games left in the regular season.
