Atlanta Dream Give New Nickname to Angel Reese

Angel Reese won the FIBA World Cup championship with Team USA, adding a gold medal to her decorated career that also includes a national championship.

The Atlanta Dream star was sensational for the national team in the tournament. In six games, she averaged 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.8 blocks. She led Team USA in blocks and was second in steals.

In the gold-medal game against France, Reese recorded three points, three rebounds, one steal and one block in just nine minutes on the court.

After the win, Reese celebrated her accomplishment with Team USA by sharing a powerful message on social media.

“Thank you God, every dream came true,” Reese wrote. “Not on my time, but the time You knew. Came for one thing, I’m leaving with Gold, Keep writing me off, that story gets old. Back to the A, got more to unfold—Dreamers here we come, we got a lot more goals.”

Reese also shared several photos of herself flexing with the championship trophy and the gold medal, along with her teammates.

Naturally, the post drew plenty of reactions, although it was the Dream’s message that stood out.

Atlanta made sure to celebrate with its superstar by giving her a new nickname that’s fitting for her latest achievement.

“Our Gold Medal Barbie,” the Dream wrote.

For what it’s worth, Reese earned a number of nicknames after the World Cup final, with FIBA and Team USA acknowledging her contributions and performance throughout the tournament.

FIBA called her “Berlin Barbie” in reference to her popular “Barbie” nickname and the fact that the competition was held in Berlin, Germany. Team USA, meanwhile, called her “Gold Angel” in celebration of the championship.
