Angel Reese is already producing highlights in her first preseason game with the Atlanta Dream. The 23-year-old officially donned a Dream jersey for the first time on Wednesday.
It only felt fitting that the debut came against her former team, the Chicago Sky. Chicago traded Reese to Atlanta earlier in the offseason, sending two first-round picks to the Dream in return.
Reese spent two seasons in the Windy City, averaging 14.1 points and 12.9 rebounds per game across 64 games. She earned All-Rookie First Team honors, made two All-Star appearances and claimed two WNBA rebounds titles in that period.
The former LSU star will always cherish her time in Chicago. Now, a new chapter begins. Reese opened it with a bang, and the Dream made sure to commemorate the moment.
The Reese era in Atlanta opened with a victory, topping the Sky 87-78. The two-time All-Star played limited minutes, suiting up only for the first half as the Dream dominated from the start.
She made the most of every second on the floor, tallying eight points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Reese’s scoring and rebounding drew attention as usual, but her defense stole the show.
The Baltimore native patrolled the passing lanes and finished with three steals. She also delivered one of the night's best defensive plays, rejecting former teammate Kamilla Cardoso's shot at the rim.
The Dream flexed on Instagram, sharing an image of that emphatic defensive stop.
" of the game," the post was captioned.
Reese figures to be a major upgrade to Atlanta's frontline. The Dream finished last season at 30-14, and her presence only raises the ceiling higher.
She led all players in plus-minus against the Sky, posting a plus-14. Head coach Karl Smesko will clearly lean on Reese on both ends of the floor.
