Azzi Fudd might just be more delighted to play with former UConn Huskies teammate Paige Bueckers again than to be drafted as the 2026 WNBA No. 1 overall pick. In practice this week, the duo’s on-court chemistry picked up where they left off last year.
As the Dallas Wings began training camp for the upcoming preseason, it gave Fudd a chance to reunite on the court with Bueckers. In her April 23 episode of “Fudd Around and Find Out”, the 23-year-old admitted Bueckers surprised her with her passing skills after a year apart.
“It’s been fun,” Fudd said about their reunion. “We were actually on the same team yesterday and today, actually. But yesterday, we were doing five-on-five stuff, like live for the first time. And we ran this one play, and she gave me a perfect – play could not have been executed more perfectly. I think Lee set me a perfect screen, got me open, Paige, a perfect pass over the defender’s hands, like right into my shot pocket, and I made it. And I’m like, ‘I forgot how good of a passer you are, and she’s like, ‘Really? Hasn’t been that long.’ So, super fun.”

Fudd’s relationship with Bueckers dates back to their time with the UConn Huskies. The pair won a national championship in 2025, and Bueckers followed it up by going first overall in the WNBA later that year after an exceptional final college season.
While Fudd was unable to secure an NCAA championship in her own final year, she delivered a career-best season under Geno Auriemma and reached the Final Four. After a season that saw her average 17.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and shooting 44.7% from beyond the arc, Fudd has now followed in Bueckers’ footsteps as this year’s top draft pick.
Fudd also praised Bueckers’ winning mentality heading into her second year, despite a challenging rookie season in which the Wings finished among the league’s lowest-ranked teams.
“That’s something special about Paige, her mindset is phenomenal. She always sees things as a challenge and an opportunity to grow. She’s not used to losing, but she took those moments and continued to grow, be a great leader, and make everyone around her better. That’s something I can adopt for myself.”
Meanwhile, Bueckers also called teaming up with Fudd in the WNBA a “dream come true.” Moreover, it is further evident that the duo is a draw playing together by the insane demand of fans wanting to secure season tickets for the upcoming season.
On Tuesday, the Wings announced that they sold out all season ticket memberships, from premium courtside seating to suite inventory, for this year. The Wings follow the Las Vegas Aces as only the second team in the league to have achieved this milestone ahead of the season.
This is also their third straight season to achieve this feat. While last year was a total disappointment for the Wings, who ended their season with a 10-34 win/loss record, the addition of Azzi Fudd this time around makes things even more exciting.
Dallas will nationally televise 36 of its 44 regular-season games. They rank second behind the Indiana Fever, who will broadcast all their games nationally.
After participating in a preseason game against them on April 30, the Wings also open their 2026 season on the road against Caitlin Clark and the Fever on Saturday, May 9. However, they will make their home debut at College Park Center on Tuesday, May 12, against Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream.
So, are you excited to watch Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers reunite on the court once again?
