Becky Hammon and the Las Vegas Aces cruised to a 90-68 victory over the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night to even the series with authority.
Hammon called the Fever's first round series against the Atlanta Dream a "football match" and said "some of the hits that I saw in the Atlanta-Indiana game, if I did that to you in the street, I would be arrested."
That physicality has carried over into the Aces-Fever series.
Following a disappointing Game 1, Hammon urged her players to get "a little feisty" heading into Game 2. "If there's one thing that the playoffs are, it's rough. ... You can't tiptoe into a bar fight," she said of the team's playoff series against the Fever.
After a blowout victory in Game 2, Hammon called the officiating "out of control."
"I mean, you can bump and grab a wide receiver in the NFL for those first five yards, but you can do it in the W for the whole half court," Hammon said. "You put two hands on somebody like that, it should be an automatic foul. The freedom of movement, there's no freedom."
Hammon admitted the Aces aren't innocent, but put the onus on the officials and WNBA to fix the "out of control" nature of the officiating.
"And I'm not saying that we're not fouling, too, not saying that. I'm saying it's out of control. Most of my assistants come from the NBA, and they're like, 'This would not fly in the NBA. ... There'd be fights.' We just have very well-mannered women that can get to the next play."
The Aces and Fever split the first two games of the series at Michelob Ultra Arena as the series shifts to Indiana for games on Friday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 28.
