The Atlanta Dream just can't stop making history. Earlier this week Atlanta defeated the Connecticut Sun 87-62, giving the Dream's Karl Smesko a WNBA-record 29 wins for the most by a first-year coach.

"It's nice that we're winning and that we're in a good position for the playoffs," Smesko said following Monday's victory. "Those types of [records] don't have a lot of meaning for me. The meaningful part is coming up: Are we going to be the best prepared for the playoffs?"

Atlanta Dream Take Down Connecticut Sun Again

Just two days later he added to that total as the Dream dispatched the Connecticut Sun in an 88-72 victory, adding to Smesko's case as the potential Coach of the Year. The latest victory gave the coach a two-game lead over the the previous 28-win record set by former Los Angeles Sparks head coach Michael Cooper in 2000.

It also created more history for the Dream, giving the team its 30th victory - the most in franchise history in the regular season.

"Tonight marks our 30th win of the 2025 season. It's a new franchise record for the most regular-season wins in Atlanta Dream history!" the team said in a statement while revealing the news.

Potential Playoff Opponents for Dream Include Indiana Fever

With Atlanta's win on Wednesday, Sept. 10, the Las Vegas Aces now need a victory over the Sparks to lock up the No. 2 seed. If Las Vegas loses, Atlanta will take the No. 2 spot.

If the Dream secure the No. 2 seed, their first-round opponents will be either the Seattle Storm or the Fever. Meanwhile, if Atlanta secures the No. 3 seed, its playoff opponent will either be the Fever or Golden State Valkyries, who face off against the Minnesota Lynx in their season finale.

The WNBA playoffs tip off on Sept. 14.
