Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty, one year removed from winning a championship, were eliminated from the 2025 WNBA Playoffs in the opening round, falling to the Phoenix Mercury 2-1. This came despite taking an early 1-0 series lead and holding home-court advantage.
Sandy Brondello’s fourth season as Liberty head coach has come to an end. She found major success in New York, compiling a 107-53 regular-season record with four straight playoff berths and back-to-back championship appearances. Despite that run, the Liberty chose not to renew her contract following their postseason exit and will now search for the franchise’s 10th head coach.
Yet despite a tough day for New York fans, Stewart received some big news following Brondello’s dismissal.
The inaugural season of Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 women’s basketball league, tipped off in Miami in 2025. The league was founded by Breanna Stewart and Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier, who both played in the inagural season along with many other WNBA stars.
With season two of Unrivaled set to begin at the start of next year, the league has started to reveal its player pool. And, as expected, Stewart is confirmed as one of the 48 players set to compete.
"BREANNA STEWART IS UNRIVALED ✅," Unrivaled wrote on X. "Presented by @Ally. Catch her again in Season 2 starting Jan. 5 on TNT, truTV and Max. "
