Brittney Griner Makes Move Away From WNBA Before Free Agency

Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream finished the 2025 WNBA season with a 30-14 record, securing the No. 3 seed in the playoffs. However, the Dream's postseason run was short-lived, falling to Kelsey Mitchell and the No. 6 seed Indiana Fever 2-1 in the first round. The Fever were able to pull off the upset despite missing stars such as Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham.

Griner has now finished her first season with the Dream and her 12th WNBA season overall. The former Phoenix Mercury star began the season as Atlanta's starting center, but was later sent to the bench in favor of Naz Hillmon. Still, Griner was able to make an impact in 2025, averaging 9.8 points on 51.8% shooting, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.

Following the 2025 season, Griner saw her one-year, $214,466 deal with the Dream expire, becoming an unrestricted free agent. And with the WNBA securing a new collective bargaining agreement, free agency is set to officially open on April 12. But before Griner finds out her basketball future, the center is making moves off the court.

Recently, it was announced that Griner will make a special appearance at League One Volleyball (LOVB) Pro, a professional women’s volleyball league based in Atlanta. The league features six teams: LOVB Houston, LOVB Atlanta, LOVB Salt Lake, LOVB Nebraska, LOVB Austin and LOVB Madison.

Griner will be in attendance for Wednesday’s game between Atlanta and Nebraska at 8 p.m. ET at Overtime Elite Arena, which also hosts the Overtime Elite league, a professional basketball program for prospects ages 16 to 20.
