The Atlanta Dream made one of the biggest splashes of the offseason by acquiring veteran center Brittney Griner, a two-time scoring champion, 10-time All-Star, and 2014 WNBA champion. Griner’s arrival was expected to boost Atlanta’s frontcourt and give the franchise a true centerpiece for their championship aspirations.

So far, the move has paid off. The Dream (28-14) have enjoyed a strong 2025 season, currently sitting second in the WNBA standings and proving themselves as legitimate contenders. Griner’s presence, along with standout performances from Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, has fueled Atlanta’s rise and positioned them well heading into the postseason.

Atlanta Dream Fans Receive Good News After Sparks Game

On Friday night, the Atlanta Dream blew out the Los Angeles Sparks 104-85 to cap off another strong showing down the stretch of the regular season. Following the game, the team took to social media to make a major announcement:

“With tonight's win, we have officially clinched a top-four seed in the 2025 WNBA Playoffs. This means that we will host Game 1 on Sunday, September 14th and, if necessary, Game 3 of our opening-round series in the WNBA Playoffs!” the Dream posted.

Not only does this mean home-court advantage for the Dream, but the announcement is also exciting news for the fans, who now have a date to circle in their calendar as Atlanta looks to make a deep run.

Last year, the Dream reached the postseason as the 8th seed but were eliminated in the opening round by eventual champions New York Liberty. This time, expectations are higher. Having Griner in the lineup, along with an improved supporting cast, gives them the tools to advance further. Clinching a top-four seed early also allows Atlanta to focus on rest and preparation as they gear up for the next stage.

Brittney Griner Has Been Impactful on the Atlanta Dream

Brittney Griner has averaged 9.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks over 36 regular-season games, and has been a reliable post presence this season. However, she has seen limited action since her return from a neck injury in August, averaging 7.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.0 block in 12 games, all off the bench.

Clinching a top-four seed early gives the Dream flexibility to manage her minutes even more carefully as the playoffs loom. Heading into September, Atlanta can strategically limit Griner’s time on the court, ensuring she stays fresh and effective when it matters most. Her defensive impact and playoff experience could prove decisive in close postseason matchups.
