Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese news emerges amid WNBA season
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese reacts to a flagrant foul from Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.

The Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese rivalry remains as strong as ever. The two stars’ on-court rivalry from their college days has translated to an intense personal competition now that they are both in the WNBA.

In June, fans were treated to three matchups between the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream. These were Reese’s first games against Clark following her offseason blockbuster trade from the Chicago Sky.

The Fever beat out the Dream in their first meeting on June 4, 83-71. Reese and Co., however, scored back-to-back wins against Indiana on June 18 and 20.

Their third matchup turned out to be a lopsided affair. The Dream dominated the Fever in Atlanta en route to a convincing 113-96 victory. Reese registered 19 points, six rebounds and three assists in the win. Clark’s 26 points and seven assists were not enough for Indiana.

Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese rivalry delivers viewership numbers

A testament to how WNBA fans continue to passionately follow the Clark-Reese rivalry is the viewership numbers. Jon Lewis of Sports Media Watch reported on Friday that the June 20 matchup between the Fever and the Dream drew massive views.

“Saturday’s Fever-Dream WNBA regular season game averaged 1.7 million viewers on ABC, marking the third-largest audience of the season behind Fever-Liberty on CBS earlier this month (2.6M) and Wings-Fever on the opening weekend of the season (2.5M),” reported Lewis.

The report added that the game also ranks as the seventh-most-watched WNBA regular-season game on ABC in the last 23 years.

The good news is that fans have one more Fever-Dream matchup to look forward to this season. Clark and Co. will aim to even the season series at 2-2 on Aug. 16 in Atlanta.

Depending on how the season plays out for both teams, it’s also possible that Clark and Reese face off in the playoffs for the first time this year.
