Caitlin Clark’s second WNBA season has been a mix of high-level performances and frustrating setbacks. The Indiana Fever guard entered the year with immense expectations after a historic Rookie of the Year performance in 2024. Appearing in just 13 games in 2025, Clark has put up noteworthy performances, averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds. However, injuries have interrupted her rhythm and limited her availability.
A lingering groin issue has kept Clark on the sidelines since July 15, and with no defined timetable for her return, concerns about the severity of her injury have started mounting. Despite these challenges, Clark has remained in high spirits, supporting her teammates from the bench. Off the court, she has shown the same poise and was recently a guest on WNBA legend Sue Bird’s podcast.
Appearing on the latest podcast of the “Bird’s Eye View,” Clark reflected on her impactful stint with the Iowa Hawkeyes, her transition to the pros, and the growth required to compete at the highest level. While discussing the difference between how she was approached by the defense in college versus the WNBA, the two-time All-Star also hinted at her future and what she intends to do after concluding her WNBA career:
“Honestly, like I might go back at one point in my life and coach college basketball,” Clark said.
Clark’s ambition sounds intriguing, but it’s not the first time she has been associated with coaching. She recently earned a nickname from her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, after the WNBA All-Star Game back in July.
Clark, sidelined by injury, was seen actively guiding teammates from the bench. Following the event, McCaffery shared a photo of Clark to his Instagram stories calling her “Coach CC.”
While Clark’s latest comments provides a glimpse of her post-WNBA career mindstate,
her focus for now remains returning to action and helping the Fever finish the season strong. She has missed 18 games this season, including Indiana’s last nine games, and will hope to be back in time as the team heads into a crucial point in the regular season.
The Fever are currently 5th in the WNBA and are still in the mix for postseason contention, and Clark’s return to full health will be critical. They will look to bounce back from their two consecutive losses when they take on the Chicago Sky on Saturday.
