The Indiana Fever’s path to the Commissioner's Cup final was anything but smooth. Tensions ignited early when Caitlin Clark and Connecticut Sun guard Jacy Sheldon, well known for their heated rivalry, got chippy in the second quarter.

Later on, Sheldon's poke to Clark's face triggered a larger scuffle involving Marina Mabrey, who shoved Clark to the floor. The referees assessed technicals on Clark, Tina Charles, and Mabrey, and upgraded Sheldon's foul to a flagrant 1.

The intensity didn’t end there. With just 46.1 seconds left, Fever guard Sophie Cunningham delivered a hard, flagrant foul on Sheldon under the basket. Another altercation erupted, ultimately resulting in the ejections of Cunningham, Sheldon, and Sun’s Lindsay Allen

Postgame, Fever coach Stephanie White let loose, blasting the officiating crew for “allow[ing] overly physical play” and failing to control the escalating tensions. The questions came back and forth, visibly frustrating Clark.

After several silent seconds, she responded decisively.

“You guys came for basketball, let’s talk about basketball… We’re going to the Commissioner Cup championship—that’s pretty exciting, y’all wanna talk about that?”

Despite the drama, Clark delivered a strong performance: 20 points, six assists, and four 3-pointers, helping Indiana secure an 88‑71 victory and a ticket to the Commissioner’s Cup final on July 1 against the Minnesota Lynx, who found their own ticket by beating the Las Vegas Aces.

The Atlanta Dream's loss further solidified Indiana's spot in the final. Brittney Griner's team led going into the fourth quarter but lost in the final minutes to the New York Liberty's dominant display.
