Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are taking a different approach from the rest of the WNBA when it comes to the pregame national anthem.
During last Saturday's game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, fans noticed that every player on the Chicago Sky stayed in the tunnel for "The Star-Spangled Banner." Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was first to report that information. He was sitting courtside for the Fever-Sky game.
Fast forward a week later, and the Fever are once again playing on national television. They're taking on the New York Liberty in what could be an eventual playoff preview.
Moments ago, Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports revealed that New York's roster refused to stay on the court for the national anthem. The Fever, however, proudly stood up for this pregame tradition
"Are the Fever the only team in the WNBA that stands on the court for the national anthem? The Liberty stayed in the locker room, after the Sky did last Saturday," Glasspiegel wrote on X.
Obviously, fans aren't happy about the Liberty refusing to stand for the national anthem on Memorial Day weekend.
For what it's worth, the WNBA's rulebook states that "players, coaches, and trainers are to stand and line up in a dignified posture along the sidelines or on the foul line during the playing of the National Anthem."
The WNBA has not yet commented on the Liberty and Sky skipping the national anthem in Indiana.
