Caitlin Clark has a very long and extremely promising career ahead of her. The Indiana Fever superstar had a forgettable 2025 campaign, in which she was limited to just 13 games due to multiple soft-tissue injuries. Clark, however, returned with a bang, winning MVP honors for Team USA at the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament earlier this month.

Even before Clark established herself as one of the top players in the WNBA , she had already cemented her place as an icon for her alma mater, the Iowa Hawkeyes. A testament to this is that Clark holds the all-time NCAA Division I basketball scoring record (men’s and women’s) with 3,951 points over four seasons.

Clark played alongside a bunch of teammates during her time in Iowa. She also built strong friendships off the court, including one with guard Jada Gyamfi.

Clark started her Hawkeye career in 2020. Gyamfi joined the team in 2022, ahead of Clark’s junior year. They played two seasons together, and Gyamfi was part of the squad that reached back-to-back national championship games in 2023 and 2024.

On Monday, Gyamfi took to social media to officially announce her retirement after four seasons with Iowa.

“Retirement post, thankful for it all” the 6-foot-1 forward wrote, sharing some of her favorite photos from her memorable run with the Hawkeyes.

Congratulations quickly poured in for Gyamfi from fans and friends alike. Clark also sent a heartfelt message to her former teammate.

“So proud of u 23 to the rafters asap ” wrote the Fever star.

Clark’s message also included an immediate demand from Iowa. The two-time WNBA All-Star wants the program to retire Gyamfi’s No. 23 jersey in the rafters as soon as possible.

Gyamfi responded to Clark’s post. Gyamfi said that she “might have to scoot you over,” in reference to Clark’s No. 22 jersey already hanging in the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.

The Hawkeyes officially retired Clark’s jersey on Feb. 2, 2025. It remains to be seen if Iowa will heed Clark’s call to have Gyamfi’s No. 23 shirt hung next to hers.
