Caitlin Clark Not Picking Angel Reese on All-Star Team has Skip Bayless Raising Questions

There are just a few days left before Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese make their 2nd All-Star appearances. The two have come a long way from being top of the heap 5-star recruits in high school, to making a mark in the WNBA.

Their respective fan bases have also helped in pushing the WNBA to unheard of levels of growth over the past year. The league is banking on the two to continue playing well enough so that they keep making All-Star games.

Last year, the All-Star weekend received unheard-of attention. Not only was the arena packed, but fans showed up for the prior to day events as well. Usually, those events hardly find takers, but the two young stars have brought along fans who are now absorbing everything the league has to give them.

Clark has missed quite a few games, but had enough good performances to ensure she gets selected to her 2nd All-Star call up. However, she needed the help of her millions of fans to make it through, after her peers voted her 9th best among guards.

Reese, on the other hand, had a disastrous start to her season. Thankfully, her performances over the past few weeks have made sure she does not miss out. As captain, Caitlin Clark had the chance to make Reese her teammate again, but did not.

Caitlin could’ve picked Angel, didn’t. They obviously don’t like each other, so why play the PR game and try to fake some “friendship”? Rivalries sell.

Skip Bayless believes the league has questionably decided to keep the two sophomores as rivals. Bringing them together is probably not good enough business, hence the WNBA ensured the two do not unite this time.

Caitlin Clark could not pick Angel Reese

Earlier, when Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier joined ESPN’s Malika Andrews to select their respective teams, it was billed as if the two had to make decisions on the fly. However, soon it became evident that the draft was probably already decided.

The players that went on to both sides seemed pretty uniform with what was expected of the two captains. The Fever guard selected players she was comfortable with, while the Minnesota Lynx’s MVP frontrunner preferred to select UConn, and Unrivaled players.

At first glance, it seems this was how the two would select their teams. However, the draft order was switched when they had to select their reserves, and Collier had the first opportunity to select Angel Reese.

Last season, Clark and Reese were teammates as they had to battle the Team USA. Their connection on a score blew the internet wide open. However, the league also knows that the rivalry has more chances to create long term revenue.

Caitlin Clark traded Team USA head coach to Napheesa Collier

The WNBA had given both captains, Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier, the option to trade players from each category. Even though Collier wanted fellow UConn teammate Gabby Williams, Clark did not concede.

However, they did come to an understanding where they would trade coaches. Clark sent her assigned head coach, Cheryl Reeve, to Team Collier in exchange for their coach, Sandy Brondello. Ironically, Reeve is Collier’s coach, which would have made natural sense.

However, fans were quick to remember that Reeve is also Team USA’s head coach. She was extremely upset with reporters constantly asking her about Clark’s non-inclusion in the Paris Olympics squad.

Even if there was no need for them to trade, it seems in the interest of competition, both All-Star captains, and the league decided to do it this way. That way, the drama continues for social media to feast on, and the game will be more competitive.
