Caitlin Clark Sends Message After Indiana Fever’s Unfortunate News

Caitlin Clark’s second WNBA season has been an exercise in elite production tempered by injury management. In 13 games before the break, Clark averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 31.3 minutes per contest, shooting 36.7% from the field and 27.9% from 3-point range.

After missing five games in May and June with a left quadriceps strain, and then five more with a left groin issue, Clark returned July 9 only to tweak her right groin in the Indiana Fever’s 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the team revealed that Clark will not participate in any of the WNBA All-Star events this upcoming weekend.

The Fever shared a formal statement from Clark on Instagram in which she expressed her deep gratitude to the Indianapolis Host Committee and all who "put endless work in over the past year" to stage All-Star Weekend, while revealing she must "rest my body" and will not participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game.

She pledged, however, to be courtside at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to assist coach Sandy Brondello in guiding Team Clark to victory.

Clark later reposted the statement on her Instagram story, adding "."

As the WNBA approaches the mid-season break, the Fever sit (just barely) in playoff position, carrying a 12-11 record and third place in the Eastern Conference.

Their balanced attack ranks third in the league in points per game (84.2) and seventh in opponent scoring (80.2), yielding a +4.0 point differential (fifth in WNBA).

As the league’s most prolific young talent, missing All-Star Weekend on home court is a significant moment for both Clark and the Fever.

Looking ahead, the Fever return to action July 22 for a rematch at Barclays Center against the New York Liberty. For Clark, with her All-Star moment canceled and timeline undetermined, the priority now becomes a healthy second half that can propel Indiana deep into the playoffs.
