Caitlin Clark To Appear in CBA Meetings as Players Brace for Strike

Since Caitlin Clark came into the WNBA, fans and the media have received enough proof that she is fueling the fastest growth the league has ever experienced. In her sophomore year, that growth is continuing, and could help the league inch closer to breaking even.

Next season, the league will start receiving $200 million in television money per year after the NBA and WNBA brokered a mega media rights deal. That, along with the additional media deal with ION, the women’s game is about to receive revenue it has never seen before.

As the revenue has grown multifold, players want the new CBA, which is set to start next season, to bring about major increases in salaries. Currently, they get a fraction of what other athletes receive.

The league and its owners sent the 1st proposal earlier last week. WNBPA representatives called it a ‘slap in the face’. Now, a major meeting is to take place at the All-Star weekend, and reporters asked Caitlin Clark if she was going to be a part of it.

I’m still trying to understand and engage as much as possible… This is a very important time for our league and where it’s gonna continue to grow. I’m certainly looking forward to those meetings and being in them… Should be very important for us on Thursday.

Caitlin Clark said

This confirms what Michael Jordan‘s agent, David Falk, wanted the Indiana Fever star to do. He claimed her presence would help sway the discussions to benefit the players. It seems the WNBPA is acting on that suggestion, and Caitlin Clark will be present at those meetings.

Caitlin Clark should help players avoid striking

When the first mentions of the CBA discussions started to become public, Angel Reese had talked about sitting out. She made it clear that the women in the WNBA deserve to be paid, and anything less will force them to strike.

Several fans and some right-wing media members slammed her for suggesting that a strike or lockout could become a possibility. The New York Post’s Madeline Kenney spoke with several sources who confirmed that players are bracing for a possible work stoppage.

If that is where they are headed, then Caitlin Clark being present in these meetings over the All-Star weekend would go a long way to help avoid that. She is the ‘golden goose’ of the WNBA, and owners know that the revenue they are currently enjoying is mostly due to her impact.

Last season, the Indiana Fever enjoyed most of the outcome of that impact. This season, the impact has spread league-wide, when it became evident that teams garnered much higher ticket sales, even for games without Clark.

Hopefully, for the players, the owners, and the league will listen to the most impactful person. There are 108 days before the deadline, and the hope is that Clark’s words help the players avoid stopping work as well as the momentum that has gathered over the past few years.

Caitlin Clark talks about being the Face of the League

Currently, there is no clear-cut face of the WNBA. Some believe A’ja Wilson is the best person to represent that moniker. However, fans and most of the media believe Caitlin Clark is the de facto face of this league.

You take it as it goes. The attention, whatever that is, I don’t want to say I get used to it, but to an extent, you do. People are gonna criticize you, people are gonna praise you, no matter what it is when you’re playing on this level, and you have this type of spotlight… that’s just how it’s gonna be.

Caitlin Clark replied

This was the Indiana Fever point guard’s answer when a reporter asked her what it takes to be the face of the league. From her answer, it becomes evident that she knows what the pressure of being the face means.
