WNBA star player Caitlin Clark already got her first tech in the preseason game between the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream on Saturday afternoon.
According to Chloe Peterson from The Indianapolis Star on X, the guard "got a technical foul for talking to the ref after a turnover led to an open Bri Jones layup. Looks like she was looking for a foul on the possession that led to her TO."
An X post appears to show the moment when the athlete received the technical foul. Out of frustration during the second quarter, she threw a basketball against the basket's frame and let the ball keep rolling on the ground. This, along with her arguing with the ref, could have led to this tech.
According to a user on X, they overheard Clark say to the referee, “I’m not having this conversation .. It’s just preseason."
In a video taken at the game, fans can see a visibly upset Clark walking away after speaking with the referee, while teammate Sophie Cunningham walks alongside her, trying to calm her down.

The athlete has developed a reputation for being vocal with referees, a trait that has followed her from her college days in Iowa into her professional career.
Clark addressed many times during the off-season that she hopes to keep her technical fouls to a maximum of two during the 2025 WNBA season. In her rookie year, she racked up six technical fouls, just one shy of the league’s threshold of seven, which would have resulted in an automatic one-game suspension.
