Los Angeles Sparks fans received some uplifting news this week as forward Cameron Brink continues her inspiring recovery from a torn ACL. After suffering a season-ending injury last June, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft is finally nearing a return to the court.

During a recent episode of her podcast, "Straight to Cam," Sparks teammate Dearica Hamby shared an encouraging update on Brink’s return status.

“She is back in practice, she’s coming back [to play] soon,” Hamby said, sparking excitement among fans eager to see Brink back in action.

At a recent Sparks practice, Brink was seen setting on-ball screens, rolling to the basket and showing flashes of the agility and skill that made her a top prospect after playing for the Stanford Cardinal. Although she didn’t participate fully with the team, she played in an extended half-court 5-on-5 session against the Sparks’ male practice squad.

Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts also expressed optimism, hinting that Brink could return by the end of the month.

“She’s coming back. It’s going to take time,” Roberts said. “We all need to have patience with that.”

Roberts acknowledged the challenge of returning from a serious injury but emphasized Brink’s elite defensive instincts and offensive upside.

“Her defensive timing, she understands it. She’s elite defensively,” Roberts said. “Offensively, I think she gives us a boost as well.”

Brink averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game before her injury, ranking second in the league in blocks behind only Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson. Her return could also give the Sparks their first full roster of 12 healthy players this season.

Roberts summed it up best.

“We want to win, but let’s peak in August,” she said. “Cam provides a little bit of a boost not just on the court but just the confidence it brings to all of us having a player like that back.”

For a Sparks team (7-14) fighting to climb the standings and return to the postseason for the first time since 2020, Brink’s return offers a bright light and plenty of hope for what lies ahead.
