In what has proven to have been a decidedly top-heavy 2024 WNBA draft, with star guard and No. 1 pick Caitlin Clark sucking up most of the oxygen and other potential stars like Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso and Rickea Jackson also getting attention, it's easy to overlook the defensive demon who was picked directly behind Clark: Sparks forward Cameron Brink.
Brink averaged 14.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game at Stanford, and led the nation in blocked shots. She only played 15 games in L.A. last year before she tore her ACL, ending her season in June and sending her into surgery in July.
She was averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists at the time. It wasn't quite the impact that Clark had, but Brink was showing considerable promise. Then came the knee injury, and she has not played in nearly a year.
Sparks fans are, of course, seeking to know when she might be back on the floor. Brink addressed the question this weekend, but was not specific--"a little bit" was her answer.
Asked by Spectrum Sports about her injury rehab, Brink said, "It’s been good, I have been surrounded by the best people, I have to shout out or organization, the Sparks, our training staff, they’ve all done such a good job taking care of me. Feeling good. It’s gonna take a little bit until I am back out there, but it’s feeling good.
When she does get back on the floor, likely in a matter of weeks rather than months, Brink said she will have developed thicker skin and a tougher attitude.

"Learn the power of having a great attitude and a resilient mind, and attacking each day with edge, I would say," Brink said when asked about how she has responded to the injury, mentally. "I think I definitely have grown a lot, mentally. It’s not been easy. But I have great people in my corner so that makes it a lot easier. Grit, for sure.
"I’ve always gotten through the hardest parts of my life. So, I know I will be able to persevere through this. And just have a great attitude every day. It starts with my attitude, every day."
