Despite standing tall as one of the league’s top teams this season, Liberty saw its playoff hopes crash in Round 1. The culprit? Injuries, once again, haunting them at the worst possible moment. But while the early exit stung, the aftermath carried an even bigger blow, which even struck a nerve with rival team HC.
It all comes as days after Liberty’s elimination, the team chose not to renew Brondello’s contract after four seasons. But if Reeve’s words are any indication, Brondello won’t stay unemployed for long. When asked about rival team’s HC she shared, “You know, we said it this time last year actually—the stakes keep getting higher as the business grows,” Reeve began. “I think Sandy’s a heck of a coach, and she’ll land on her feet like she always does. If I’m Seattle, Toronto, or Portland, I’m absolutely thrilled to be gifted a championship-level coach.”
Shen then acknowledged the competitive nature of the league but made it clear that her respect for Brondello runs deeper than the scoreboard. “Though we’re competitors, I think a lot of Sandy—both personally and professionally.”
