With Tuesday’s 103-86 loss to the Washington Mystics, the Chicago Sky closed out the month of July on a sour note.

Chicago is riding a six-game losing streak, and the team lost eight of its 10 games in July, making it a month most around the team would like to forget.

But if there was one bright spot for Sky fans to hold onto, it was the play of All-Star forward Angel Reese. The 23-year-old LSU alum leads the WNBA in rebounding (12.6 per game), and she’s tied for ninth in blocks (1.5 per game) and 10th in minutes per game (31.7).

Her offensive game has really picked up in recent weeks, and Reese’s improved scoring numbers helped her accomplish a notable feat on Thursday when the Sky announced Reese had been named their Player of the Month.

“Been in her BAG. A5 is our @MagellanCorp Player of the Month for July ⭐️ ➡️ 17.9 PPG | 12.1 REB | 3.1 AST #skytown,” the Sky posted on X.

It marked the second straight month that Reese, who scored fewer than 15 points just one time in July and recorded a double-double in all seven of her appearances, won the award, despite playing in just seven games.

She edged out teammate Kamilla Cardoso, who averaging a double-double (12.0 points, 10.1 rebounds per game) in eight games.

Reese has scored 15 or more points in 11 of her 23 games this season, and she’s logged double-digit rebounds in 19 contests.

She leads the Sky in minutes, points, and total rebounds (3.9 offensive and 8.9 defensive per game), and she ranks second in assists (3.7 per game), and third in steals.
