DiJonai Carrington and the Chicago Sky will return to action on Thursday after the WNBA’s FIBA World Cup break. They will host the Washington Mystics at Wintrust Arena for the first of their four remaining games. However, an unwanted news about the veteran guard guard emerged on Wednesday.

She entered the league as the 20th overall pick in the second round by the Connecticut Sun in 2021. Carrington signed with Chicago in April on a one-year deal. She missed the first 27 games of this campaign due to an injury sustained last year.

Carrington has been a regular part of the rotation since her Sky debut on July 30. The former Baylor Bears star is averaging 8.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game.

Chicago Sky: DiJonai Carrington’s status for Mystics game announced

The Sky released their injury report for Thursday’s game, listing Carrington as out due to a foot injury. It’s a huge blow to the team as it aims to finish the season strong despite already being eliminated from playoff contention.

Carrington and Chicago own a 15-25 record and currently sit 10th in the standings. They are tied with the Los Angeles Sparks with the same win-loss slate but hold the tiebreaker. Both teams trail the Portland Fire for ninth place and have a strong chance to climb the ladder. Winning as many matchups as possible will give the Sky momentum for the 2027 season.

The franchise has faced a challenging year as it continues to deal with different injuries to its key players. The team lists Natasha Cloud as questionable for Thursday, while Skylar Diggins will miss the remainder of the season. Rickea Jackson continues to rehab following her ACL injury in May. Chicago is on a three-game losing streak after losing 85-66 to the New York Liberty on Aug. 29.
