Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky haven’t had the 2025 WNBA season they hoped for. At 9-30 with three regular-season games left, the Sky have been eliminated from playoff contention, leaving Reese out of the postseason for the second straight year.

Despite the team’s struggles, Reese has thrived in her second year in Chicago. She is averaging 14.6 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists and earned her second All-Star selection. Injuries have been a factor, though, as she missed 10 games this season. The Sky went 1-9 without her, compared to 8-21 when she played.

Before Wednesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun, Chicago made it clear it believes Reese deserves All-Defensive Team honors, asking the WNBA to consider her for the award.

"Board Barbie. Ms. Mebounds. The Enforcer. From the paint to the perimeter, it’s hers. Need a reminder? ROLL THE FILM ️ ➡️"

Featured in the Sky's post was a list of her accomplishments this season. They include:

  • Ranks first in the WNBA in total rebounds and defensive rebounds per game
  • Became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 500+ rebounds
  • Already one of the Sky’s top five rebounders in franchise history
  • Ranks in the WNBA top 11 for steals per game in 2025
  • First WNBA player to average 17 rebounds per game over a six-game span (June 22–July 8)
  • Recorded a season-high 19 rebounds, including a career-high 17 defensive rebounds (June 22 vs. Atlanta)
  • Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for June 23–29

While the Sky continue to campaign for her first All-Defensive Team selection, Reese has voiced her frustration with the team’s performance this season, hinting that she could consider leaving if things don’t improve.

"I’m not settling for the same (expletive) we did this year," Reese told the Chicago Tribune's Julia Poe. "We have to get good players. We have to get great players... However, I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason… I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me."

Reese and the Sky will host the Sun on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
