The Chicago Sky experienced another disappointing season, missing the playoffs for the third straight year. The good news is some of their players emerged as bright spots, including Sydney Taylor. They announced their star rookie’s new achievement on social media on Monday.
Taylor signed a training camp deal with the team in April after going undrafted in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She made the final roster after impressing in the preseason. The Louisville product started the campaign as a reserve before becoming a regular part of the starting unit. She became the second player in league history to record 30 points in 21 minutes or less. Taylor also etched her name in the history books as the fourth rookie with multiple games of at least 25 points off the bench in the same season.
She earned All-Rookie Team honors and has given Sky fans more reason to be excited about the future. Taylor’s scoring and playmaking will be key in Chicago’s attempt to break its three-year playoff drought.
Taylor suited up for Team USA at the FIBA Women’s 3×3 AmeriCup championship in El Salvador. The national team secured a silver medal, and Chicago expressed pride for its star rookie.
“congrats to Sydney Taylor for taking home the silver in this year’s @fiba3x3w AmeriCup championship
what a run, @sydd.taylor
,” the Sky wrote on Instagram.

Canada won gold, defeating the Americans 21-12 in the final, while Colombia took home the bronze. Twenty teams participated in the competition, with 12 advancing to the knockout stage.
Meanwhile, the Sky will have a busy offseason. They will prepare for the draft and also assess their roster, potentially adding free agents. The team has several holes to fill, which the front office will address in the coming months. Chicago finished with a 16-28 record, good for 10th place in the standings.
