Chicago Sky Make Big Trade a Day Before WNBA Draft

The Chicago Sky are looking to get back in the WNBA Playoffs after just missing out in 2024.

Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso could be the main two focal points for Chicago this season under new head coach Tyler Marsh. But the roster has undergone some changes as well, not bringing back guard Chennedy Carter and ultimately replacing her with Courtney Vandersloot and Ariel Atkins.

On Monday, the Sky, despite missing the playoffs, were slated for the No. 10 pick in the first round. However, one day before the draft, Chicago made a deal to acquire a second first-round pick.

According to ESPN's Alexa Philippou, the Sky have traded their 2026 first-round pick to the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for the No. 11 overall pick in Monday's draft.

"News: The Chicago Sky have acquired the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft from the Minnesota Lynx," Philippou wrote on X. "In exchange, MIN gets CHI's 2026 first-round pick, extinguishing its previous pick swap rights with the Sky. Sky now have picks No. 10, 11 in 1st round for tomorrow's draft."

The Sky finished the 2025 WNBA Draft lottery with the No. 3 overall pick, but in late February, they traded it away for Atkins. Now, the Sky could look to acquire two young first-round prospects in the draft or even trade both picks for a better one.

Barring any major health issues, with a reloaded roster and new coaching staff, the Sky could find themselves back in the playoffs this year. They will start the 2025 season against the Indiana Fever on May 17.
