Chicago Sky Make Historic Announcement on Thursday Night

The Chicago Sky haven’t gotten off to the start they hoped for, dropping their first four games of the WNBA season. While they’ve shown signs of improvement with each outing, they entered Thursday night’s matchup against the Dallas Wings still searching for their first win.

The Wings, one of the league’s bottom four teams last season, landed the No. 1 overall pick in the draft — which they used to select former UConn star Paige Bueckers.

Despite the Sky remaining competitive throughout Thursday’s game, a historic moment stole the spotlight in the third quarter.

The franchise announced that longtime Sky legend Courtney Vandersloot had officially passed her wife, Allie Quigley, to become the new all-time leading scorer in Chicago Sky history.

"SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT," Sky posted. "Courtney Vandersloot has officially become the Chicago Sky’s all-time scoring leader passing her wife, Allie Quigley."

Courtney Vandersloot has now amassed 3,724 career points with the Chicago Sky — the franchise she’s been a cornerstone of since its early days. The Sky entered the WNBA as an expansion team in 2006, and Vandersloot joined the team in 2011, becoming one of the most iconic players in its history.

She spent over a decade in Chicago before departing for the New York Liberty in 2023, where she played a key role in their championship-winning season.

However, Vandersloot was also part of Chicago’s only title run in 2021. After two seasons away, she returned to the Sky this offseason, stepping into a veteran leadership role on a young roster led by rookie standout Angel Reese.

Vandersloot’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. She is a five-time WNBA All-Star, two-time champion, seven-time WNBA assist leader, and five-time All-WNBA selection.
