Led by second-year forward Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky are preparing for a fresh start this season, aiming to improve on last year's 10th-place finish with an upgraded roster. The team recently made waves by acquiring two-time WNBA champion Ariel Atkins in a blockbuster trade, sending their 2025 No. 3 overall pick and two 2027 pick swaps to the Washington Mystics.

However, that wasn't the only major move of the offseason. Veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot is making her highly anticipated return to Chicago after signing a one-year deal in free agency, per WNBA reporter Annie Costabile

Vandersloot was originally drafted by the Sky as the third overall pick in 2011 and spent 12 seasons with the team, playing a pivotal role in securing Chicago’s first WNBA championship in 2021.

She departed in 2022 to join the New York Liberty, where she helped lead the franchise to its first-ever WNBA title last season.

The move has ignited excitement among Sky fans, and the franchise added to the buzz by posting a video of Vandersloot back in practice with a simple, yet powerful two-word captio.

"She’s bacccccckkkk," the team posted on Monday.

A five-time All-WNBA and five-time All-Star selection, Vandersloot has led the league in assists seven times over her illustrious career. Her return adds veteran leadership and playmaking ability to a Sky team eager to climb back into championship contention.

Vandersloot averaged 6.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists en route to the WNBA title last season. Overall, she is averaging 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.6 assists for her career, while shooting 44.7% from the field and 81.2% from the free throw line in 429 career games.

The Sky will begin their 2025 campaign with a home game against the Indiana Fever on May 17.
