Chicago Sky Star Shares Subtle Response to Angel Reese's Comments

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese may be one of the best young players in the WNBA, but she also may be on borrowed time in Chicago.

The No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft has quickly established herself as the best rebounder in the league, while also making two WNBA All-Star teams. But the Sky have struggled tremendously, and based on a recent interview, she is strongly encouraging the team to make moves to improve the roster, or she may leave.

Aside from telling the Chicago Tribune that she doesn't believe in any player on the roster outside of Kamilla Cardoso, Reese also sent a blunt message about five-time WNBA All-Star and two-time WNBA champion Courtney Vandersloot, who has missed the majority of the year with a torn ACL.

"We can't rely on Courtney to come back at the age that she's at," Reese said. "I know she'll be a great asset for us, but we can't rely on that. We need someone probably a little younger with some experience, somebody who's been playing the game and is willing to compete for a championship and has done it before."

While Reese later apologized to her teammates for her comments, Vandersloot seemed to have a very pointed answer when asked about her plans for next season on Saturday.

"Oh absolutely," Vandersloot said. "Contrary to what people say or think, my age is absolutely not a factor. I am coming back. I'm gonna come back better than ever."

In terms of how the Sky handled the Reese situation, they opted to suspend her for the first half of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces for comments that were deemed “detrimental to the team.”

Reese has two years left on her rookie deal, including a club option for 2027, but it's unclear if either party plans on her being there through the 2027 season and beyond.
