Chicago Sky Under Fire for Angel Reese Announcement After Third Straight Loss
© Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images

The Chicago Sky haven’t had an easy start to the WNBA season, facing a tough stretch of opponents. But they've also struggled significantly on both ends of the court.

After back-to-back blowout losses to the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty by a combined 60 points, their woes continued Sunday night against the Los Angeles Sparks.

For the third straight game, the Sky allowed their opponent to score over 90 points in regulation. While they were much more competitive in this game, they still fell 91–78, dropping to 0–3 on the season.

Following the loss, the team once again drew backlash from fans—this time for naming Angel Reese the “Player of the Game.”

Reese notched her second double-double of the young season, finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the loss. The Sky highlighted her performance on social media with a post that read, “double double for 5!!”

It marked the third consecutive game the Sky have handed out the honor despite a double-digit loss, a move that has not sat well with many fans who feel it sends the wrong message during a tough start to the season.

Fan reactions:

"Who cares? Win a game please!!!!" a fan said.

"You’re 0-3 this season. What happened to WE before ME?" Someone else added.

Another fan posted, "It means [explicit] and less when you lose!!!"

"Ain’t no player of the game when we suck. Good game Angel!" A fan reacted.

One more fan commented, "Team Social Media hoping a Reese Double Double will distract from the elephant in the room. Sky fans aren’t happy."

The Sky remain one of the youngest teams in the WNBA, but their early-season struggles are raising concerns—especially after entering the year with hopes of building on last season’s 13–27 finish.

While Angel Reese has been a statistical bright spot, her individual production hasn’t yet translated to team success. Through three games, she’s averaging 9.0 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.

Chicago is back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to face the 3–1 Phoenix Mercury. The status of rookie Hailey Van Lith remains uncertain after she missed Sunday’s game due to an ankle injury.

WNBA Legend Diana Taurasi Doesn’t Hold Back While Talking About Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark

WNBA legend Diana Taurasi was recently asked to talk about Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark and the Phoenix Mercury icon didn’t hold back. Taurasi revealed that she and Clark are close friends. The three-time WNBA champion also said she’s a huge fan of how the Fever guard plays basketball. “Me and Caitlin are really good friends,” Diana Taurasi said about Caitlin Clark. “We get along really well. We’ve had some great interactions. I just absolutely love what she does on the court, off the court. When I watch her play and the way she goes about her business, there’s a seriousness about it that I love. “And, you know, she’s taking this game to new heights and it’s been amazing to watch and follow her. And, you know, it’s only gonna get better for our league and for Caitlin.” When Clark suffered a left quad injury on May 24 and missed almost a month, WNBA TV ratings went down more than 50%. Clark missed the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game in Indiana. Ticket prices and viewership went down after she announced she wouldn’t play. A two-time All-Star, Clark is currently out with a right groin injury. The Iowa product has appeared in 13 games this season for the Fever. She’s averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists while shooting 36.7% from the field, 27.9% from beyond the arc and 82.0% from the free-throw line. The Fever are 17-12 on the season. They are fourth in the WNBA in points per game, sixth in points per game allowed, fourth in offensive rating, fifth in defensive rating and fourth in net rating. Clark won the Rookie of the Year Award last season. She was the first pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The 23-year-old has career averages of 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists. Justin Fields Called 'Biggest Loser' In Jets Training Camp

Justin Fields Called 'Biggest Loser' In Jets Training Camp

The New York Jets opted to cut Aaron Rodgers and sign Justin Fields to replace him during the offseason. This kind of commitment to Fields should bolster his confidence, but it could also place a lot of pressure on his shoulders. To this point, Fields has looked solid in training camp, aside from a scary toe injury that was quickly resolved in July. Justin Fried of the Jet Press recently reported that Fields' training camp may have reached a new low over the weekend as the young signal caller struggled. "Justin Fields put together his best practice of the summer to this point on Friday, completing his first 12 passes en route to an excellent all-around performance. The same can't be said about his showing on Saturday, however," Fried wrote. "Fields finished the day an abysmal 2-of-10 in the air, including a drop from rookie tight end Mason Taylor. "Some of his incompletions were catchable balls, but the Jets' passing game struggles on Saturday can largely be blamed on No. 7. Fields did flash his running ability with a 25-yard rushing score on the first play of red-zone drills, but the Jets would like to see more consistency in the air from the starting quarterback. Saturday's scrimmage was far from his best showing of the summer." Fields is a runner first at the NFL level, but his arm is nothing to scoff at. For most of training camp, his arm talent has been better than advertised, but during Saturday's scrimmage, it just wasn't there. A 2 for 10 performance is unacceptable for a $40 million quarterback who was signed to take over the team. The running game should open up the passing game for the Jets, which is going to need to be the case if Fields is going to struggle like this. However, it's just one day of camp. It's nothing to be too concerned about. Just because Fields lost this specific practice doesn't mean he's heading in the wrong direction as a whole.

Michael Hage’s Dominance Clear at World Juniors Showcase

The World Junior Showcase showed the dominance of multiple Montreal Canadiens prospects this past week. After discussing Koivu’s play in the mini tournament earlier today, it is now time for a discussion on the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Michael Hage. Much like his Finnish counterpart, the Canadian forward Hage stood out from his teammates throughout the showcase. Hage, who is arguably a top 3 prospect within the Montreal Canadiens pipeline, put on a show that should help him secure a role within Canada’s 2026 World Juniors team. The fact that he proved to be one of the best players for Canada this past week shows that not even getting an invite to the team’s final selection camp, despite a very strong freshman season at the University of Michigan, seemed silly, as even last year, he likely should have had a shot at making the team. Now that he managed to score a goal in all 4 games that he played for Canada at the World Juniors Showcase, there is almost no way that Canada can leave him off the roster. One of the most memorable moments throughout the whole tournament for Hage was definitely when he was in a scrum, mixing it up with his former Canadiens Development camp roommate, Aatos Koivu, as previously mentioned in my article from earlier today. Another amazing moment in that game was Hage’s goal, where he completely deked around the Finland goalie to put the puck in the net. It will be interesting to see where in the Canada lineup Hage will land, as a lot of notable names such as Michael Misa, Beckett Sennecke, and Tij Iginla did not play at the showcase. The good news is that the first two names may end up playing in the NHL, allowing a spot higher in the lineup for Hage. Another thing that will work well in Hage’s favour is that he is very versatile and can play on the wing or at centre for Canada. His coach even praised his “hard skills” for Canada during those four games he played. After watching Hage’s play over the last year, one thing is clear: he could be a play driver on whatever line he plays on for Canada. His game also seems like it will translate well at the pro level. Many may say that Hage must play a top 6 role for Canada, but the fact that he can play an aggressive style and has a strong defensive game could mean that he is also able to play in a bottom-six role if need be. The truth is it would be unlikely he would have to be on the bottom 6, but if the guys mentioned above aren’t in the NHL and are instead on the team, there is a chance that it could happen. This upcoming season with the Michigan Wolverines should be a big one where Hage could find his way in the Hobey Baker conversation if he improves on his 13 goals and 34 points in 33 games. The first half of the season will be telling for his place with Hockey Canada, whereas the 2nd half could also help him earn some time at the pro level. The way Hage has played since being drafted, it feels more like it’s more about when he’ll play for the Canadiens in a regular-season game, rather than if he will. Will Hage prove that he’s ready to play at the pro level this year at Michigan?

Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury excited for forgotten WR, whose progress is ‘night and day’

The Washington Commanders have Super Bowl intentions for the 2025 NFL season, and OC Kliff Kingsbury believes fans will see even more from certain players in the year ahead. Kliff Kingsbury, who has head coaching experience in the NFL, returned as an offensive coordinator in 2024. He was hired as the offensive coordinator entrusted with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, and the results were sensational. With Daniels’ help, Kingsbury built one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, and the Commanders may have even more depth than many are anticipating. Kingsbury praises Luke McCaffrey for development ahead of 2025 season The Washington Commanders were electric in 2024. Jayden Daniels threw for 3,568 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, while rushing for another 891 yards and six TDs on the ground. Terry McLaurin led the team in receiving yards and touchdowns, totaling 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 scores. Beyond that, the team had a lot of contributing pass catchers, including veteran tight end Zach Ertz, and receivers Olamide Zaccheus, Noah Brown, and Dyami Brown. Zaccheus and Dyami Brown both took deals to play elsewhere in free agency, so the Commanders replenished the room with the trade for Deebo Samuel, and the additions of both veteran Michael Gallup and fourth-round rookie Jaylin Lane. However, one name that has flown under the radar as he enters his second season in the league is 2024 third-round pick Luke McCaffrey. McCaffrey, who is the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers running back and NFL star Christian McCaffrey, is hoping to make a bigger impression in 2025. Kliff Kingsbury talked about his development this week, saying: “Luke’s come a long way from last year this time to now. Just the confidence, we’re playing him outside a lot for necessity … he’s definitely night and day difference from what he was last year this time.” Kingsbury also talked about the ‘worst case scenario’ with Terry McLaurin, if he did get hurt or wasn’t with the team for any reason in 2025. He said they were navigating who would play on the outside, and that’s one of the reasons they’ve been getting McCaffrey reps out there during training camp. Terry McLaurin’s trade request is allowing younger receivers reps with starting offense Terry McLaurin is a true professional, and when his contract situation finally gets resolved there is very little doubt that he’ll return to form immediately. That said, in his absence there are players like Luke McCaffrey who are seeing a lot more reps. Kingsbury talked through the potential personnel groups without McLaurin on the field, and it sounds like McCaffrey is proving he can be trusted as an X receiver, as well as playing out of the slot. In 2024, the third-round pick ran 76% of his reps out of the slot, but if the team knows they can also count on him at the X, he may see more playing time in 2025. McCaffrey finished his rookie season with 18 catches for 168 yards and will now be competing for reps this season with rookie Jaylin Lane and other depth pieces within the Commanders’ offense.
