In March, Chicago Sky star Angel Reese called out conservative influencer AKA for publishing a fake quote that the second-year WNBA player wanted equal pay to NBA athletes.

“I love how yall have selective hearing,” Reese posted on X. “I said “I’m hearing if they don’t give us what we want, we sitting out” and that’s the truth. I never said anything about the NBA. We are prepared to stay at the negotiating table for as long as it takes… I will continue to use my voice to speak for what WE want & deserve as a league. Thank ya.”

Reese used her platform on her podcast “Unapologetically Angel” to threaten a potential strike in the WNBA if players didn’t receive what they wanted from during the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement scheduled for after the season.

During her most recent podcast, Reese had Chrisean Rock as a guest on the show. The rapper made the NBA comparison when she said Reese does for the WNBA what LeBron James does for the NBA.

“Yeah, because you’re doing exactly what LeBron is doing,” Rock said. “So what’s, Angel Reese, what’s going on? I don’t like that.”

Reese had the opportunity to clarify if she felt her value was comparable to the most popular player in the NBA. Reese laughed at the comment and chose to say that money was coming into the WNBA.

“They ain’t got the money for us just yet, but it’s coming,” Reese said. “It’s coming. It’s a lot that goes into it. But it’s coming. Trust me, it’s coming.”

Reese said she would continue to use her podcast to advocate for higher pay in the WNBA.

“I was saying, but I speak for a majority because I know my platform,” Reese said. “And not a lot of people in the WNBA had the same platform. I know my voice is heard. And so I know my voice, negative or positive, like the feedback that I get is heard.

“Like people won’t hear what I got to say. So I speak unapologetically. I’m going to speak on what’s for the majority. The women, even if it’s not me right now, the players, the best players, they deserve the money. So I’m going to speak for them. And that’s what we deserve, period.”
