The Indiana Fever suffered their 17th loss of the season on Friday, bowing to the Minnesota Lynx in a tightly contested affair, 95-90.
Indiana — who were missing Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson and Chloe Bibby in the game due to injuries — led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter before ending the first half at 52-50.
However, Minnesota turned things around in the third quarter, with Kayla McBride, Alanna Smith and Jessica Sheppard combining for 24 points to help the Lynx outscore the Fever 32-17.
Despite the Fever's late surge in the final quarter, the 13-point deficit was just too much for Indiana to overcome.
While the Fever dropped to 19-17 on the season with the loss, there were some positives to take from the game. For one, guard Lexie Hull started for the team and recorded a career-high 23 points.
Hull's previous career-high was a 22-point outing against the Seattle Storm in August last year.
Against the Lynx, the sixth overall pick of the 2022 WNBA Draft shot 9-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-7 from deep. Hull was second on the t eam in scoring, only behind Kelsey Mitchell who had 27 points.
In her postgame presser , Fever head coach Stephanie White offered her blunt assessment of Hull's performance, noting that the veteran guard delivered exactly what they needed.
"She was aggressive," White said of Hull's career game, per reporter Tony East. "She was hunting shots, she was aggressive to the rim. You know, she knew we needed another scorer on the floor and because of the attention that Kelsey and AB [Aliyah Boston] get, she was getting free and she was hunting shots."
The Fever coach added, "That's what we're going to need from her."

The Fever will be without Cunningham (knee), Colson (knee) and McDonald following their season-ending injuries. It also remains unknown when Clark will be back after she sustained a mild ankle issue while recovering from her groin issue.
Bibby was ruled out for their game against the Lynx due to a knee problem, while Odyssey Sims had to leave Friday's contest due to a still undetermined injury.
With that said, Hull should see an increase in her workload in their remaining games, especially if Bibby and Sims miss an extended period. Including the Lynx showdown, Hull has now started in 22 games for Indiana.
The Fever will certainly need Hull to step up and provide them with a scoring boost. The Fever are sixth in the WNBA standings, but they are only half a game ahead of the No. 7 Seattle Storm and a game ahead of the No. 8 Golden State Valkyries.
They also only have a 1.5 games lead over the No. 9 Los Angeles Sparks, so they could find themselves out of the playoff picture if they don't string wins together in their remaining eight games.
