Connecticut Sun Coach Doesn't Hold Back On Sophie Cunningham

Tuesday night's game between the Connecticut Sun and Indiana Fever ended in fireworks due to a hard foul from Sophie Cunningham.

During the final minute of the game, Cunningham brought Jacy Sheldon to the ground as she was driving to the rim. Sheldon immediately got up off the floor and tried to chirp back at Cunningham. When the dust settled, they were both ejected from the game.

That foul from Cunningham wasn't a random act of aggression. She was clearly retaliating against Sheldon since she had a flagrant foul on Caitlin Clark during the third quarter. We also can't forget that Marina Mabrey hit Clark with a cheap shot.

Even though Connecticut wasn't innocent in all of this madness, head coach Rachid Meziane placed most of the blame on the Fever during his postgame press conference.

No, we're not kidding.

Meziane called Cunningham's foul on Sheldon "stupid" and "disrespectful." That's not all he had to say about that altercation.

"When you are winning a game by 17 points and you doing this stupid foul, this is just disrespectful," Meziane told reporters. "I don't know how Jacy and Lindsay [got] rejected from the game when they did nothing."

Later in his postgame press conference, Meziane applauded the officiating crew's decision to not eject Mabrey for pushing Clark.

"She just tried to be between two players," Meziane said. "The ref has to do their job to clean the game, and make sure that the best team won the game and not just who is more physical."

There's no doubt fans are going to crush Meziane for his postgame remarks.

As for Fever coach Stephanie White, she aired out her complaints about the league's officiating.

"I think it was pretty obvious that stuff was brewing," White said. "When the officials don't get control of the ball game, when they allow that stuff to happen ... this is what happens."
