Connecticut Sun Coach Had Words For Sophie Cunningham After Her Ejection

In their second game since returning from injury, Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham have helped the Indiana Fever move to above .500 to begin the 2025 WNBA season.

On Tuesday, the Fever defeated coach Rachid Meziane and his Connecticut Sun 88-71, giving Indiana coach Stephanie White her first win against her former team.

But the main headlines from the game are the two heated altercations between the teams.

It started midway through the third, when Clark took a shot to the face from Jacy Sheldon before she pushed the Sun guard away. Marina Mabrey took exception to this and pushed Clark to the ground. Eventually, both sides were separated and numerous technical fouls were handed out.

Later, with under a minute to play, White had brought in the reserves to close out the game. On a fast break, Sheldon drove to the basket against Cunningham, who wrapped her up and brought her to the floor—a personal foul.

Another scuffle quickly broke out involving Cunningham, Sheldon, and Lindsay Allen, as other players rushed in to separate them. After reviewing the incident, officials ejected all three.

After the loss, Meziane spoke to the media for a postgame press conference, and he had choice words about Cunningham's late foul.

"I did not understand," Meziane said. "When you are winning a game by 17 points and you doing this, to me, stupid foul, this is just disrespectful. I don't know how Jacy and Lindsay get ejected from the game when they did nothing. For me, it's just disrespectful to do that foul when you're winning the game by 17 points. Completely stupid."

Clark finished the night with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting and six assists. Cunningham, on the other hand, added five points and seven rebounds off the bench.

The Fever will have one day off before beginning a three-game road trip on Thursday, facing the Golden State Valkyries.
