DiJonai Carrington Ruled Out for Dallas Wings’ Matchup vs. Las Vegas Aces Despite Full Practice Return

Dallas Wings guard DiJonai Carrington will not play in Wednesday night’s home game against the Las Vegas Aces after being downgraded from questionable to out, the team confirmed.

Carrington practiced fully on Tuesday for the first time since suffering a rib injury during a June 20 matchup against the Connecticut Sun. The session marked a major step in her recovery and opened the door for a possible return against Las Vegas.

However, Carrington was only a partial participant at Wednesday’s morning shootaround, and the team opted to take a cautious approach, ruling her out later in the day.

Wings head coach Chris Koclanes had expressed optimism following Tuesday’s practice, saying Carrington “looked good” and “pretty comfortable” in full-contact drills. Still, he emphasized that no final decision had been made regarding her status for game night.

Carrington has missed nine straight games since taking a hard hit to the chest while drawing a charge in the fourth quarter of Dallas’ win over Connecticut. This season, she has averaged 11.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game and has remained an engaged presence on the bench.

With Carrington still sidelined and multiple injuries impacting the backcourt, the Wings signed guard Grace Berger to a hardship contract earlier this week to help bolster the rotation.

Dallas will aim to extend its four-game home win streak when it hosts the Aces at College Park Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
